Tim joined MST at the end of 2011 following 12 years in senior leadership roles with mission agency Pioneers and almost a decade in pastoral ministry with Baptist churches in Queensland.

Prior to moving into ministry roles, Tim trained and worked as a professional musician, then as a secondary school teacher and also trained as a commercial pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship. He has effective skills in leadership and administration, and strong gifts in teaching and preaching, cultural and organisational change, as well as entrepreneurial abilities.

Tim grew up in a missionary family in Papua New Guinea before moving to Melbourne during high school, where he later met and married Kathryn. They have five children.

    Dr Peter Riddell

    Peter completed his PhD on Islam in Southeast Asia at the Australian National University. He has also studied Qur’anic Exegesis (L’Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes/ Sorbonne, Paris) and held a postdoctoral fellowship (Hebrew University of Jerusalem). Peter has previously taught at the Australian National University, the Institut Pertanian Bogor (Indonesia), the London School of Oriental and African Studies, and was appointed as Professor of Islamic Studies and the founding Director of the Centre for Islamic Studies and Muslim-Christian Relations at the London School of Theology.

    In addition to his role at MST, Peter is also a Professorial Research Associate in the Department of History, SOAS, University of London. Peter is published widely on Southeast Asia, Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations.

      Rev Dr Justin Tan
      Rev Dr Justin TanVice-Principal (Academic: Chinese)

      Justin is the co-Vice- Principal (Academic) for MST’s Chinese department. He has lectured in Old Testament Studies, Early Church History, Christian Spirituality, and World Religions.

      After completing a Bachelor of Engineering at Monash University, Justin furthered his knowledge of the Bible and spiritual formation by achieving a Master of Divinity at the China Graduate School of Theology (Hong Kong), a Master of Theology at the South East Asia Graduate School of Theology (Hong Kong) and a PhD in Philosophy and Religious Studies at King’s College in London.

      Justin has written across a broad range of Biblical issues and his works have been published extensively throughout the world. He has also taught in Bible colleges and universities throughout Australasia.

        Peter Tyrrell

        Peter has extensive experience as a teacher in schools throughout Victoria. Prior to joining the MST team, Peter was the CEO of Chuck Swindoll’s radio-Bible teaching ministry, Insight for Living Australia, and host of his daily radio program that broadcast on over 80 stations across Australia, in New Zealand and the South Pacific.

        Peter’s ministry experience includes six years with Focus on the Family Australia, where he was co-developer of such programs as How to Drug Proof Your Kids, Heritage Builders and No Apologies, for which he directed and produced a self-paced, instructional DVD series for international release. Peter has held senior positions in the telecommunications industry as a business analyst, and in the areas of quality management, support services and IT.
