Introduction

This subject discusses the wisdom literature and traditions in the Old Testament and the
Ancient Near East in its social settings. Special reference is made to the book of Job and the
doctrines of God and humanity, creation, the fear of God, retribution and moral order.

Prerequisites and Exclusions

Pre-requisites: OT302/502 and BB303/503

Time Commitment

This subject will require class attendance. There will be 3 hours of lecture time each week for 13 weeks, and approximately 7 hours private study per week.

Textbooks

Students are required to purchase the following textbook:

– Estes, Daniel J. Handbook on the Wisdom Books and Psalms (Grand Rapids: Baker Academic, 2010).

Specific commentaries related to the subject will be discussed in class.

All students will require Internet access to access the class materials on our online student portal eCampus.
