Bachelor of Divinity

Bachelor level study. Super flexible unit choices. Fee-help access, even with a previous degree.
How to Apply

Introduction

This course is designed for those who have completed a previous degree in any discipline or graduates with a previous non-theological degree, who want to study theology and ministry at a bachelor level, without higher level research requirements. The B Div offers a solid grounding in theology and ministry but is highly flexible. With half the course made up of electives, you can tailor your studies to your area of interest or ministry, including missions, biblical studies, theology or pastoral fields—or a combination of all of them! Duration: Minium 3 years, up to 9 years part time.

Structure

The Bachelor of Divinity requires the satisfactory completion of 24 units totalling 288 credit points. Full-time students normally take a study load of 3-4 units per semester, and part-time students 1-2 units per semester.

 

Biblical and Theological Foundation

Complete two units of Old Testament Introduction and two units of New Testament Introduction:

  • Old Testament Foundations OT001-612
  • Old Testament Prophets and Writings OT002-612
  • Jesus and the Gospels NT001-612
  • The Early New Testament Church NT002-612

Complete two Christianity in History units (CH)

Complete two Theology (TH) units

 

Biblical Exegesis

  • Complete a Biblical Exegesis Track (two 6cp units totalling one 12cp standard coursework unit):
    • Introduction to Biblical Interpretation BB008
      + Principles and Practice of Biblical Exegesis BB013 OR New Biblical Interpretation Unit (TBC)
  • Complete two Set Book units, including one each in both Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT).

 

Ministry Studies

Complete one unit in ministry studies, which includes:

  • Pastoral and Church-Focussed Ministries (PC)
  • Evangelism and Missiology (EM)
  • Developmental Ministries (DE)

These must be completed at level 7 or above.

 

Spiritual Formation

Complete one of the following units:

  • Theology for Everyday Life PC121-612, PC121-712
  • Christian Spirituality: Traditions & Practices PC065-612, PC065-712
  • Patterns of Spiritual Formation PC045-712

 

Electives

Complete a further eleven units of your choice.

Academic Qualifications

 

  • Successful completion of a Non-theological bachelor degree or equivalent

 

Language Qualifications for NESB

 

  • Equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall with no band score lower than 6.0 in each subtest OR 10 years in Australia with English being the language primarily spoken both at home and work.

FEE-HELP

  • FEE-HELP is available for all ACT courses for Australian Citizens and those holding special Visas.*

  • Enrolled students need to apply for FEE-HELP by the Census Date of their first semester of enrolment.

  • Continuing to receive FEE-HELP is dependant upon the student’s academic progress. A student must pass 50% of their units each semester to continue receiving FEE-HELP.*Some conditions apply – see studyassist.gov.au for more information.
