Unit Code: EM045-912
Pre or Co-requistes: Yes
This course seeks to equip the student in the critical task of understanding the ever-changing ministry context of today’s church – its surrounding culture and society. Students will learn how to “exegete” today’s socio-cultural context of ministry using a number of approaches and tools ( e.g. sociological, anthropological, cultural and theological), examining not only “what” is happening but also “why” it’s happening. This course will also help you to examine the complex relationship between the church and its surrounding cultures/societies. You will learn to explore how surrounding cultures shape the internal culture and mission of the church while also identifying some of the ways through which the church can impact its surrounding world in a prophetic manner.
