Explore Introductory issues, including authorship and dating, and the relevance of ancient Near Eastern backgrounds, with special attention to topics that are debated among interpreters, e.g., the days creation and the cosmology of Genesis 1, the relationship of Genesis 1 and 2, the historicity of Adam and Eve, the identity of the ‘sons of God’ and ‘daughters of men’ in Genesis 6, the historicity and extent of the Flood, Noah’s nakedness and the curse on Canaan, the Tower of Babel.
The development of theological themes from Genesis 1–11, including the image of God in humanity, the command to be fruitful and multiply, the Garden of Eden as a sanctuary, the consequences of Adam and Eve’s sin, exile as punishment, the Flood and new creation.
