Are you interested in going further in your studies of the Christian faith? Our Master of Theological studies will equip you to mine the depths of Scripture and apply theological wisdom to today’s world at a first-rate level. Melbourne School of Theology offers a wide variety of units from which you may choose across all the theological disciplines for completing the Master of Theological Studies: Biblical Studies, Christian Theology, Christianity in History, Practical, Pastoral and Missional Theology. Our learned faculty will be there to assist you every step of the way.

Biblical Studies. Develop key principles and tools for interpreting the Bible and examine the biblical, theological and ministry foundations of Theological Studies. Teamwork and Professional Practice. Work as a leader and in groups, to apply theological understandings to formal ministry contexts and the wider community. Engage with the World. Bring developing a professional and vocational capacity to engage with the challenges of contemporary Christianity, society and the wider world.

Structure

The Master of Theological Studies requires the satisfactory completion of 16 units totalling 192 credit points. Full-time students normally take a study load of 3-4 units per semester, and part-time students 1-2 units per semester.

 

Biblical & Theological Foundation

 

Complete two units of Old Testament Introduction or New Testament Introduction:

  • Old Testament Foundations OT001-812
  • Old Testament Prophets and Writings OT002-812
  • Jesus and the Gospels NT001-812
  • The Early New Testament Church NT002-812
 

Complete one Christian Thought unit, from Christianity in History (CH), Theology (TH), or Philosophy and Ethics (PE).

 

Electives

 

Complete the remainder of your course with electives of your choice, either nine or up to twelve further units (dependant on your project scope).

Research Project

 

Complete a research project within a field of your choice, at one of the following scopes:

  1. Single Unit (12cps) Project (7,000 Words)
  2. Research Methods AS001-912, plus a Double Unit (24cps) Project (12,000 Words) – 3 units total.
  3. Research Methods AS001-912, plus a Triple Unit (36cps) Project (16,000 Words) – 4 units total.

Academic Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a 3-year non-theological bachelor degree or equivalent.
 

Language Qualifications for NESB

 
  • Equivalent to IELTS 7.0 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing, and 6.5 in listening and speaking OR 10 years of in-country experience.

FEE-HELP

  • FEE-HELP is available for all AQF-accredited AUT courses for Australian Citizens and those holding special Visas.
  • Enrolled students need to apply for FEE-HELP by the Census Date of their first semester of enrolment.
