Unit Code: NT016-812
Pre or Co-requisites: Yes
The Gospel of John illuminates our understanding and enriches our experience of Jesus in numerous ways, just like a diamond refracting light in a myriad of colours. The purpose of the unit is to help students understand the religious milieu, basic content, main themes, and historical situation of John’s gospel. It provides a discussion of critical issues, an analysis of pertinent literary and theological themes, and exegesis of selected passages in the Gospel. In addition, the unit encourages students to reflect on the significance of the Gospel of John for Christian life and ministry. As Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:38).
