Unit Code: CH002-712
Pre or Co-requisites: None
This unit provides a survey of Christianity from the Reformation to the present. We will pay particular attention to key factors and themes that contributed to the advance or decline of Christianity at significant historical junctures, with particular reference to significant theological developments and missionary philosophy and method.
Explore puritanism, the effect of the Enlightenment, revivals, missionary movements and totalitarianism. We will also touch on the history of the church in Australia.
Through this unit, you will gain an awareness of the major developments in the history of the Christian churches over the last five centuries and come to appreciate the problems, opportunities and attitudes of past Christians in their interaction with the societies in which they lived. You will also develop a basic grasp of the historiographical method as you begin to study particular movements, issues and periods.
