Unit Code: LA005-812
Pre or Co-requisites: 0
New Testament Greek is a crucial basis for building a correct interpretation and informed understanding of the New Testament text.
This is a rigorous subject that introduces you to the grammar of Koine Greek and builds a vocabulary range that enables competent translation to be undertaken in future study.
This is the first half of the Greek program at MST during which we will cover approximately half of the Greek textbook that we will be using all year. Right from the start you will be introduced to reading Bible verses in Greek and by the end of the semester, you will be in a position to begin translation of simple Greek New Testament texts. You’ll also have an increasing awareness of essential grammatical issues that influence our reading and understanding of the New Testament.
On completion of this unit, you will be able to understand the common terminology and grammatical descriptions used in grammars, lexicons and commentaries. You will be familiar with sufficient grammar and syntax to be able to use foundational paradigms and constructions in conjunction with about 370 words of Greek vocabulary. You will be introduced to various aids such as lexicons, concordances, commentaries and software tools.
You will need to be comfortable with recognising the Greek alphabet by the time you start LA005, please contact MST prior to enrolment to participate in a free Prelude to Greek course.
