The Master of Divinity is designed to provide graduates the opportunity to undertake study at a masters level by coursework, thus consolidating and enhancing their areas of specialisation enabling them to proceed to new areas of professional and expertise. It will equip you with all the skills knowledge you need to translate the Bible from its original language, complemented with a wide range of practical ministry electives.

Biblical Depth. Learn how to accurately and faithfully interpret the bible and communicate the Christian message and its application in this contemporary world. Christian Thought and History. Learn about major theological tenets of the Christian faith which underpin any coherent theological worldview and philosophy of ministry. Theological Insight. Successfully negotiate the content and demands in a specialised field of study in which theological insights are brought to bear upon your specific ministry context. Practical Ministry Skills. Choose to develop skills in teaching, leadership, spiritual formation, pastoral care and chaplaincy, or inter-cultural understanding.

Structure

The Master of Divinity requires the satisfactory completion of 24 units totalling 288 credit points. A full-time rate consists of 3-4 units per semester, and part-time of 1-2 units per semester.

 

Biblical & Theological Foundation

Complete two units of Old Testament Introduction and two units of New Testament Introduction:

  • Old Testament Foundations OT001-812
  • Old Testament Prophets and Writings OT002-812
  • Jesus and the Gospels NT001-812
  • The Early New Testament Church NT002-812

Complete two Christianity in History units (CH)

Complete three Theology (TH) units

 

Biblical Exegesis

  • Complete one language track:
    • New Testament Greek A LA005-812 &
    • New Testament Greek B LA006-812

OR

    • Biblical Hebrew A LA003-812 &
    • Biblical Hebrew B LA004-812
  • Complete a Biblical Exegesis Track (two 6cp units totalling one 12cp standard coursework unit):
    • Introduction to Biblical Interpretation BB008

+ Principles and Practice of Biblical Exegesis BB013

  • Complete four Set Book units, including at least one each in both Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT), with two in original language.
 

Primary Course Discipline (Divinity Stream)

Complete one unit in Christian Thought:

  • Christianity in History (CH)
  • Theology (TH)
  • Philosophy & Ethics (PE)

Complete one unit within a Primary Course Discipline field:

  • Language (LA)
  • Biblical Studies (BB)
  • Christianity in History (CH)
  • New Testament (NT)
  • Old Testament (OT)
  • Philosophy & Ethics (PE)
  • Theology (TH)

Note that your Research Project may comprise some of these credits.

 

Spiritual Formation

Complete one of the following units:

  • Theology for Everyday Life PC121-812
  • Christian Spirituality: Traditions & Practices PC065-812
  • Patterns of Spiritual Formation PC045-812
 

Research Project

Complete a research project within a field of your choice, at one of the following scopes:

  1. Single Unit (12cps) Project (7,000 Words)
  2. Research Methods AS001-912, plus a Double Unit (24cps) Project (12,000 Words) – 3 units total.
  3. Research Methods AS001-912, plus a Triple Unit (36cps) Project (16,000 Words) – 4 units total.

Complete the remainder of your course with units of your choice:

Academic Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a 3-year bachelor degree from any field or equivalent.
 

Language Qualifications for NESB

 
  • Equivalent to IELTS 7.0 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing, and 6.5 in listening and speaking OR 10 years in Australia with English being the language primarily spoken both at home and work.

FEE-HELP

  • FEE-HELP is available for all AQF-accredited AUT courses for Australian Citizens and those holding special Visas.
  • Enrolled students need to apply for FEE-HELP by the Census Date of their first semester of enrolment.
